Fumigation is essential when transporting varieties of goods via ships and aircrafts using containers. Types Of Fumigation

Stack Fumigation With ALP

  • To control insects at all life stages the only option is to fumigate in a gas-tight storage.
  • Cool grain temperatures require a longer fumigation period.
  • Aeration fans fitted on gas-tight silos provide a number of benefits including a shorter ventilation period following a fumigation.

To control pests at all life stages and prevent insect resistance, phosphine gas concentration needs to reach 300 parts per million (ppm) for seven days (when grain is above 25°C) or 200ppm for 10 days (between 15-25°C). Insect activity is slower in cooler grain temperatures so require longer exposer to the gas to receive a lethal dose.

Silo Fumigation

Silos, otherwise known as gas tight silos are recommended for long term storage of grain. Sealed silos are a controlled atmosphere that acts as fumigation chambers for effective control of insects at all life stages.

HE Silos offers fan forced (recirculation) fumigation systems or a more affordable thermal fumigation alternative. With the increasing resistance of Weevils to phosphine treatment in unsealed silos, the importance of pest control for farmers who on-sell their grain is paramount to their success in the modern market. Because of this fact alone, HE Silos has de-signed a product that will ensure your grain remains insect free.

Operation Thetear Fumigation

In spite of brief stay of patients in the operation theatre, the environment of operation theatre plays a great role in the onset and spread of infections, because of multifactor causation of infections. It is usually necessary to study the epidemiology of infection as a multidisciplinary approach. In resource poor circumstances as in most developing countries, people work in isolation and few facilities to make any epidemiological surveys. Many believe that routine Microbiological monitoring is most essential but in reality it is not practicable. But every hospital should pay good attention in proper maintenance of air conditioning plants, ventilator systems, and to have greater control on mechanisms and personnel involved in disinfection and sterilization of materials used in the theatres in operative procedures.

Fumigation

  • Seal close all the outlets like doors/windows.
  • Put off the fans, A/C, any electrical/electronic device.
  • Formaldehyde gas is generated by adding 150grams of KMno4 (Potassium permanganate) to 300ml of formalin (40%) for every 1000cubic feet of space.

Procedure

  • Take three one litre capacity heat resistant vessels. Divide the calculated quantity of formalin and KMno4 approximately into three equal parts and dispense formalin into each vessel. Place the vessels at equal distance in the centre of the operation theatre. Add KMno4 into each vessel now and immediately leave the room.
  • Other method of producing formaldehyde gas is to place the calculated quantity of formalin (no KMno4 is needed) in a single large vessel in the centre and heating done electrically for 45mins, then put off the heater from the switch situated outside the OT room.
  • The OT room should be kept closed for 36 to 48hrs.
